Syria Gate · بوابة سوريا is a community travel guide to Syria: places, governorates, events, dishes and a practical guide for visitors; a map, directions, public transport lines and live traffic; and reviews, photos and suggestions added by travellers themselves. The app is free and available in Arabic and English.

Email thesyriagate@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can. It helps to mention your device, the app version (at the bottom of the Profile screen) and the place concerned, and to attach a screenshot if you can.

1.Signing in and your account

  • To sign in, choose Google or Apple, or enter your email address and type the code we send you. Your account is created on your first sign-in; there is no password.
  • To browse without an account, choose “Browse without an account”.
  • To change your name, photo, country or visit type, open Profile and tap the edit button (the pencil) next to your name.

2.Deleting your account

  1. Open the Profile tab in the bottom bar.
  2. Choose “Privacy & security”.
  3. Choose “Delete account”.
  4. Confirm with “Delete my account”.

The option appears only when you are signed in. Your saved places, lists, notifications and profile photo are deleted immediately and every sign-in session is revoked; your published reviews and photos remain under “Deleted user”. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

If you cannot access the app, send your deletion request to thesyriagate@gmail.com from the address registered to your account.

3.Reporting wrong information

If something about a place is wrong — opening hours, phone, location, price, or it has closed for good:

  1. Open the place and scroll to the bottom.
  2. Tap “Something wrong? Fix it”.
  3. Pick what is wrong and write the correct information.
  4. Tap “Send correction”.

Our team checks every correction before applying it, and you earn points when it is approved. You need to be signed in. You can also email us the place name and what is wrong.

4.Reporting offensive content

  1. Tap the flag icon on the review.
  2. Pick a reason and add details if you like.
  3. Tap “Send report”.

We review reports promptly and aim to act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours. To report a photo or a user, email thesyriagate@gmail.com.

5.Suggesting a place or a transit line

Tap “Add” in the bottom bar, then choose “Suggest a new place” or “Suggest a transit line”. We review each suggestion before publishing it and tell you the outcome in the app.

6.Location and notifications

  • The app asks for location to show nearby places, centre the map and navigate. To change it on iPhone: Settings → Syria Gate → Location; on Android: Settings → Apps → Syria Gate → Permissions.
  • To turn notifications off on iPhone: Settings → Syria Gate → Notifications; on Android, in the app’s own settings.
