Terms of Use

1.The service

Syria Gate is a community travel guide to Syria. It presents places, governorates, events, dishes and a practical guide for visitors; offers a map, directions, public transport lines and live traffic; and lets users rate places, post photos, suggest places and correct information. The service is free and has no in-app purchases.

2.Your account

• You can browse without an account; an account is needed to rate, save, suggest and report.
• You sign in with a code sent to your email address or with your Google or Apple account. You must use an email address you own; signing in with someone else’s address or impersonating anyone is prohibited. Tell us straight away if you notice use of your account that you did not authorise.
• You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required by law in your country if that is higher.
• You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, as described on the Support page.

3.Content you post

• You keep ownership of the reviews, photos and suggestions you post. By posting them you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, display, publish and technically adapt them (for example, resizing photos) within the service and on place share pages.
• You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, that it reflects your genuine experience, and that your photos do not infringe anyone’s rights or privacy.
• Published content remains after you delete your account, without your name, and the licence above continues while it is published, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

4.Content and conduct rules

Syria Gate is purely a travel guide, and there is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. The following are not allowed:

• Political or sectarian content.
• Abuse of, incitement against or hate speech towards any person or group; threats and harassment.
• Obscene, violent or unlawful content.
• Advertising, spam, paid or fake reviews, and reviewing a place you own, work for or compete with.
• Deliberately false or misleading information.
• Posting other people’s personal data, or photos of identifiable people without their permission.
• Infringing other people’s intellectual property.
• Circumventing usage limits, scraping data, gaming points, or disrupting or attempting to breach the service.

5.Moderation and reports

• Reviews and their photos are published as soon as they are sent, after an automatic filter for offensive words, and new accounts have a daily review limit. Place suggestions, corrections, transit lines and their photos are reviewed by our team before they are published.
• You can report any review with the report icon on it, report wrong information with “Something wrong? Fix it” on the place page, or email us at thesyriagate@gmail.com. We review reports promptly and aim to act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours.
• You can also block any user from their review or profile: their reviews and photos disappear for you, and you can unblock them at any time from Profile → Privacy & security → Blocked users.
• We may hide or remove any content that breaks these terms, withdraw the points tied to it, and suspend or permanently close the offending account without prior notice.

6.Points, levels and badges

Points, levels and badges recognise contributions. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or anything else, and cannot be transferred to another account. We may change their rules, or withdraw those awarded for content that was removed or for misuse.

7.Maps, directions and traffic

• Maps, routes, voice guidance, traffic and public transport lines are provided for guidance only and may be inaccurate, outdated or incomplete.
• Always follow traffic rules, road signs and actual conditions, and do not handle your phone while driving in any way that breaks the law or puts you or others at risk.

8.Accuracy and disclaimer

• Much of the guide comes from user contributions and open sources. We make reasonable efforts to check it, but we do not guarantee opening hours, prices, exchange rates, phone numbers, or the availability of places and events. Check important information before relying on it.
• Reviews express their authors’ opinions, not ours, and we are not a party to any dealings between you and the places or service providers listed.
• Emergency numbers in the guide are for reference; in an emergency, contact the competent authorities directly.
• The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law.

9.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, or from your reliance on its content or on content posted by other users.

10.Intellectual property

The app, its design, logo and editorial text are owned by or licensed to Syria Gate / بوابة سوريا and may not be copied or republished for commercial purposes without written permission, except open content, which is governed by its own licences.

11.Ending use

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may change, suspend or discontinue the service in whole or in part, or suspend your account if you break these terms.

12.App stores

If you downloaded the app from the App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement also applies to anything these terms do not cover, and Apple has no responsibility for the app, its maintenance or its support. Google Play’s terms apply in the same way when you download from it.

13.Changes to these terms

We may change these terms from time to time and publish the updated version on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the service after the effective date means you accept the changed terms.
